The SEC's crypto Task Force is set to convene a public roundtable on October 17, focusing on the intersection of financial surveillance and privacy in the digital asset space. The event, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET at the SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C., will gather technologists, privacy advocates, and regulators to discuss how privacy-preserving technologies can align with financial oversight.

This initiative follows heightened regulatory activity, including the President’s Executive Order on Digital Assets and the SEC’s recent efforts to clarify crypto policies. Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, a vocal proponent of balanced crypto regulation, emphasized the importance of privacy-protecting tools. "Technology that helps Americans protect their privacy is critically important," she stated, underscoring the need for policy solutions that foster innovation while safeguarding civil liberties.

The roundtable will be accessible to the public, with in-person attendance requiring prior registration and security screening. A livestream will be available on SEC.gov, followed by a posted recording. Speaker lists and agendas are forthcoming.
